MIDDLEBURG – A man making a left turn from Blanding, across three lanes from the far right lane onto Brannan Field Road, wound up going to jail for trafficking fentanyl, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Ronin Ruby Velazquez, 25, of Gainesville, was charged with tracking fentanyl, possessing cocaine, displaying a firearm during the commission of a felony and driving with a suspended license after a sheriff’s office deputy saw him drive “recklessly” on March 11 near the busy intersection.
When Velazquez was stopped, the National Crime Information Center said his license was suspended. Velazquez was then arrested.
While taking an inventory of the Audi, deputies found a black backpack behind the driver’s seat containing plastic bags with what later tested to be fentanyl and a loaded handgun. They also found other plastic bags of cocaine under the driver’s seat and in the center console.
Velazquez was ordered held without bond.
