DOUGLAS, Ga. – The Middleburg High School NJROTC Athletic, Academic and Drill Teams finished second at the Area 12 Regional Championship hosted by Coffee County High.

The finish secured them a spot in the Navy Nationals at Pensacola on April 5-6.

This achievement makes Middleburg the top unit in Clay County and the second-best NJROTC unit in Northeast Florida and Georgia. The top 24 teams in the nation will compete in Pensacola for the title “Best Unit in the Nation.

“I am extremely proud of what these young men and women have accomplished this year,” said Cmdr. Shannon Clark, the Senior Naval Science Instructor of the unit. “They set their goals at the end of last school year and have worked relentlessly to achieve them.”

After the Nationals competition in April, Middleburg will be ranked nationally. The hard work and dedication of these cadets have paid off immensely. Some cadets who deserve recognition for their accomplishments are:

• Cadet Caleb House, who finished in first place as an individual on the Academic test.

• Cadet Molly Bertke, who finished in third place in individual push-ups by completing 66.

• Cadet Logan Levesgue-Vidou, who finished in second place for males in individual push-ups by completing 98 push-ups.

• Cadet Tyler Buterbaugh, who finished in fourth place for males in individual sit-ups by completing 220.

The team’s accomplishments include:

• Second place in overall drill

• First place in Unarmed Exhibition

• Third place in Unarmed Basic

• Fourth place in Armed Exhibition.

• Third place in Academics

• Fifth place in Personnel Inspection

• Third place for push-ups
