On Thursday, December 7, 2023, Marion Inez “Tanny” Cummings, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother passed away peacefully at the age of 92.

Inez was born on January 17, 1931, in Lumber City, Georgia to Juliette “Jet” and William “W.J.” Horton.  She moved with her parents to Jacksonville, Florida as a child where she grew up in Avondale and attended Lee High School.  While working for her parents’ business, City Pest Control, she met her soulmate Thomas “Tommy” Cummings and they married on May 22, 1953.  Together they raised four wonderful children Marsha, Rusty, Mike and Karen.  Inez was not a traditional housewife of the 1950s, she was a strong woman with a tremendous work ethic and established her career outside the home as a secretary and retired as an accountant.

Inez explored many hobbies from ceramics to polka dancing and even trained to be an airplane pilot.  By far her favorite hobby was traveling with her family and spending time at their cabin on Ocean Pond.  Inez and Tommy traveled across the country and internationally.  She kept meticulous records of their trips, including detailed itineraries, photos, videos and ultimately achieved their goal of visiting all 50 states.  In retirement, they enjoyed their home on Doctor’s Lake where they enjoyed boating, fishing, bird watching and hosting countless family gatherings where so many wonderful memories were made!

Inez is predeceased by her loving husband of 69 years, Tommy Cummings, son Rusty Cummings (Kathy), grandson John Hall III and great-grandson Justin Smith.  She is survived by her children Marsha Smith (Wayne), Mike Cummings (Pam) and Karen Alexander (Dwight), and 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren (and one more on the way).

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, with visitation beginning at 10 o’clock and a memorial service at 11 o’clock at Jacksonville Memory Gardens located at 111 Blanding Boulevard, Orange Park, FL 32073.
