James Andrew Hougland

James Andrew Hougland, a Navy Veteran and longtime resident of Green Cove Springs, FL, peacefully passed away at home on January 13, 2024. He was known to many in the area as ‘Hougie’ and ‘Jim’ to his family. He was born on January 20, 1953, to Adam and Dorothy Hougland, in Red Bud, Illinois. He attended New Athens High School before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He later retired as an Aviation Machinist for the Navy Civil Service.

Jim held many titles in his life, but his favorite was being a father and proud grandpa. Jim enjoyed traveling, was an avid fisherman, loved the outdoors, cherished his family, and enjoyed sharing a laugh or a joke with his friends. He was a great gardener and enjoyed cooking. He was well known for making his turtle mulligan.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his daughter Tammy Chasteen (Chris), sons Brian (Andrea), and Jeremy, as well as six grandchildren Taylor (Robert), Dalton, Chandler, Brianna, Grace, Blake, and one great-grandchild, Owen James. He is also survived by his brothers Sid (Carol), and Mike (Mari), as well as two nephews, Mike (Tricia), Tim (Nikki), and a niece, Stefanie (Cody).

Jim's Celebration of Life will take place on January 20, 2024, at 2 pm at ‘Roger That Wings & Things’ (formerly Ronnie’s) in Green Cove Springs, FL. All are welcome to attend.
