CRESCENT CITY – Crescent City High held an early 14-0 deficit despite Keystone Heights High’s efforts to close the gap behind strong running from Alex Cruz, Blake Sanders and an interception touchdown, but the Indians could not get any closer and lost 47-21 at Crescent City High School on Friday.
Crescent City, coached by former NFL standout Clarence “Pooh Bear”Williams, a former Crescent City High and FSU running back, built a 21-7 halftime lead with two passes and a rush touchdown, but the Indians got scoring runs from Cruz and Sanders. Crescent City quarterback Naykee Scott kept the Indians at bay with his four scoring passes.
Keystone Heights got their first score on a 65 yard scoring run from Cruz in the first quarter to close the gap to 14-7.
Crescent City (4-2, 3-0) scored twice before Keystone Heights got an interception touchdown from to put the score at 28-14 in the third period.
After another touchdown pass from Scott put the score at 34-14, Sanders scored on a 12 yard run to slice the lead to 34-21 with 10 minutes left in the game.
Crescent City got a 25 yard scoring pass and a 25 yard scoring run to end the game.
Keystone Heights falls to 3-3, 0-1 with the Indians heading to unbeaten (6-0) Wildwood on Fri., Oct. 13. Wildwood is coached by Myrick Rolle, head coach at Wildwood Middle School and brother to former FSU and NFL standout Myron Rolle. Rolle coached at Trinity Catholic (2014) and Lake Minneola (2015) after three seasons at Lecanto (2011-2013). Wildwood did not have a varsity team last year.
