FIHS, MHS win titles
KEYSTONE HEIGHTS - Keystone Heights High boys weightlifting coach Lantz Lowery took step one to an unprecedented back-to-back state run with a dominant district meet performance on Thursdqy at Keystone Heights High School.
The Indians, the defending Class 1A champions, rolled to a 95-44-34 team title in district 7-1A over Palatka and Union County with Keystone Heights topping the Olympic Snatch team title, 97-46 over Palatka. Keystone Heights will host the region 2-1A championships on April 8 with a 10 a.m. start.
In other districts, Middleburg High’s boys won their first-ever district title, in district 4-2A, while in district 3-3A, defending 3A champion Fleming Island repeated their district title.
Keystone Heights earned five individual titles while employing Lowery’s winning formula with a handful of top five finishes in each weight class securing vital team points.
On the top step of the podium were, at Ulysses Freed at 154 with teammate Logan Hovesepian in second; Logan Williams at 169 with teammate Nathan Tisdale in second; Trey Jeffries at 219 with teammate Tyler Anthony-Rozier in second; Caleb Moncrief at 238 with teammate Brad Wester in third, and, in Unlimited, Mason Dicks winning with teammate Luke Snider in second.
Not on the podium due to not making weight was defending 139 champion Zach Glover.
Adding more team points, at 183, Tyler Jenkins and Clayton Kicklighter finished second and third, at 199, Jayden Goodman and Bryson Wester went two and three, and, at 129, Wyatt Van Zant and Reid Begue finished second and third.
In 119, Declan Shine and J Tisdale finished fourth and fifth.
On the points scale, first place is seven points with a second and third place finishing grabbing nine team points; five and four.
Case closed.
On the dominate scale, Freed totaled 500 pounds with Hovesepian at 480; third was 410.
At 169, Williams totaled 590 with Tisdale at 575; third was 490.
At 219, Rozier and Jeffries both tied at 630 totals (Jeffries lighter body weight for win); third was 530.
At 238, Moncrief totaled 615; second was 490.
At Unlimited, Dicks and Snider were 645-625; third was 600.
The lone class that Keystone Heights did not dominate, 183, Quinn Raulerson of Union County, the defending 183 champion, totaled an astounding 665 with Jenkins at 545 and Kicklighter at 530.
Keystone Heights won seven weight classes in the Snatch competition.
