Five new degree programs coming to St. Johns River State College

Posted

ORANGE PARK—St. Johns River State College will offer five new degree programs this fall, including two bachelor’s degrees. This response addresses a district-wide need for intelligence-based, tech-savvy skill sets in today’s evolving workforce.

“Technology is rapidly changing the many facets of our workforce – from healthcare and computer information systems to how law enforcement fights crime,” said SJR State President Joe Pickens.

“These new programs will help us respond to the strong projected job outlook by bringing both convenient and affordable career options to our traditional students and those seeking additional skill sets or a career change," he said.
Data indicates a significant unmet workforce need for graduates skilled in intelligence-related analytical skills in the criminal justice professions. If you enjoy working with technology and are interested in criminal investigations, crime prevention, or security, this unique degree program merges the study of our justice system with intelligence analysis. This is one of very few programs of its kind in the state.

Attend a Zoom information session to learn more about the program on March 28, from 6-7:30 p.m. and April 9, from 6-7:30 p.m.

Available degrees include:

Gain the skills to design, plan, implement, and manage computer and information systems. Prepare for the multifaceted challenges of the technological world with a blend of technical expertise, cybersecurity acumen, and ethical professionalism required in today's digital age. The program includes two tracks: software application development and cybersecurity.

Associate in Science in Computer Programming and Analysis

A creative mix between the technical and analytical. Gain the skills to write code, solve problems and program systems to run more efficiently. Courses include system development, system design, and programming in C#, C++, Java. Learn how to automate business applications, utilize business software, and review system and programming specifications to yield solutions to business application problems.

Associate in Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography

Learn instrumentation, equipment standards, diagnostic procedures, image evaluation, and the biological effects of ultrasound while gaining experience in patient care and clinical medicine. The sonography application will be available on April 1.
Associate in Science in Paralegal Studies

Assist attorneys with researching laws and regulations, interviewing clients and witnesses, gathering evidence, preparing for discovery and trial, drafting reports and legal documents, and managing law office operations. Students who complete the program will be eligible to sit for the certified paralegal exam administered by the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA). Applications will be available in May.

With campuses in Orange Park, Palatka and St. Augustine, SJR State is a true community’s college, enriching a diverse population of students. SJR State continues its comprehensive role by expanding its services and programs while continuing its focus on the Associate in Arts (transfer) degree. Additional programs include baccalaureate degrees, more than 30 Associate in Science degrees and certificates and the Florida School of the Arts.
