Clay students graduate from Georgia Tech
ATLANTA – The Georgia Institute of Technology presented degrees to approximately 3,200 undergraduate and graduate students during the Institute’s 252nd Commencement exercises on Dec. 16-17 at the McCamish Pavilion.
Benjamin Atwell of Middleburg received a master of science in mechanical engineering and Richard Butler of Orange Park received a bachelor of science in civil engineering.

Schertell completes chiropractic degree
PORT ORANGE, Fla. – A Clay County man recently completed a degree in chiropractic medicine.
Fleming Island native Nicholas Schertell graduated with a doctor of chiropractic on Dec. 16 from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Port Orange.
To earn the doctor of chiropractic degree, Schertell completed four-and-one-third academic years of professional study at the Davenport, Iowa-based college’s Florida campus.
Schertell, who resides in Jacksonville, is the son of Keith and Patricia Schertell of Fleming Island.

Johnson named to Dean’s List
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Jason Johnson of Middleburg was named to the Dean’s List at the University of Memphis for the fall 2016 semester.
The Dean’s List is composed of students who have earned 12 or more hours in either the fall or spring semester with a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale for that semester.
The University of Memphis is a learner-centered metropolitan research university providing high quality educational experiences while pursuing new knowledge through research, artistic expression, and interdisciplinary and engaged scholarship.

Orange Park student earns academic honors
WINFIELD, Kan. – Top scholars at Southwestern College in Winfield and at Southwestern College Professional Studies have been announced with the release of the Dean’s Honor Roll for the fall 2016 semester. Full-time students who earned grade point averages of at least 3.70 (4.0 equals an A) were eligible for the honor.
Michael Zellner of Orange Park was named to the Dean’s List.
Southwestern College is a private institution granting undergraduate and graduate degrees and is affiliated with the United Methodist Church. About 1,700 students attend classes at the main Winfield campus, at six professional studies sites in Kansas and Oklahoma, or online around the world.

Lafontant named to Dean’s List
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Michael J. Sosulski, provost of Wofford College, has announced Dean’s List students for the Fall 2016 Semester.
Brianna Jhanai Lafontant of Green Cove Springs was named to the Dean’s List.
To be named to the Dean’s List, students must be enrolled for at least 12 semester hours of graded courses and attain a semester grade point average of 3.6 or higher.
Wofford College, established in 1854, is a four-year, residential liberal arts college located in Spartanburg, S.C. It offers 26 major fields of study to a student body of 1,650 undergraduates.

Gardella named to Sewanee Dean’s List
SEWANEE, Tenn. – Mason Lee Gardella of Fleming Island was named to the Dean’s List at the University of the South for the Fall 2016 term. To earn a place on the Dean’s List, a student must earn a minimum grade point average of 3.625 on a 4.0 scale.
Gardella is the daughter of Mona & David Gardella.
The University of the South, familiarly known as Sewanee, is a nationally recognized College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and a distinguished School of Theology. Located on 13,000 acres on Tennessee’s Cumberland Plateau, Sewanee enrolls 1,720 undergraduates and approximately

University of Akron honors two Clay students
AKRON, Ohio – Callie Molina of Orange Park was among more than 800 students named to the President’s List at the University of Akron for fall 2016.
Molina, a full-time undergraduate student majoring in early childhood education, earned a perfect 4.0 semester grade point average for fall 2016.
Brianna Rankin of Orange Park was among hundreds of students who were named to the University of Akron’s fall 2016 Dean’s List.
To be eligible, Rankin, majoring in sociology-criminology & law enforcement, maintained a GPA of 3.500 - 3.999, and was enrolled in 12 or more credit hours.
With nearly 26,000 students, The University of Akron is the region’s most influential public research university, contributing to the resurgence of the local economy, providing a highly skilled workforce, and known for an innovative approach to higher education.

Christ named to SUNY Oswego President’s List
OSWEGO, N.Y. – Charles J. Christ of Orange Park, a junior majoring in cognitive science, has been named to the President’s List for the fall 2016 semester at SUNY Oswego.
He was among Oswego students who achieved a grade point average of 3.80 and above on the 4.00 scale. Those achieving a GPA of 3.30 to 3.79 earned Dean’s List recognition.
A 156-year-old comprehensive college in the State University of New York system, Oswego enrolls about 8,000 students in its College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; School of Business; School of Communication, Media and the Arts; and School of Education.

McKenna named to Dean’s List
MANCHESTER, N.H. – A student from Orange Park was among hundreds named to the first semester Dean’s List at Saint Anselm College. To be eligible for this honor, a student must have achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or better in a semester with at least 16 credits of study which award a letter grade.
Julia McKenna, a natural sciences major, was among 23 students from Florida named to the Dean’s List for the Fall 2016 semester.
Founded in 1889, Saint Anselm College is a four-year liberal arts college providing a 21st century education in the Catholic, Benedictine tradition.
