Austin Daniel Hutton, 105 years old, led a long, well-lived life. He was a family man, veteran and friend to many. He passed away peacefully on December 7, 2023, at home surrounded by his family.

Austin’s wit and humor were one of his most memorable qualities, leaving laughter and smiles on the faces that surrounded him. Above these, it was his strength that he will ultimately be remembered for. He inspired all to live a healthy and meaningful life with purpose and fulfillment.

In his early years, Austin attended Schenectady City Schools, Roosevelt, Oneida, and Mount Pleasant. He loved playing sports of all kinds: basketball, baseball, track and field. Golf remained his favorite sport throughout his later years with him accomplishing many awards.

Austin served in the US Army during World War II. He was proud of his service to his country. After returning from Europe, Austin met his partner and wife of 48 years, the late Dorothy Gardner Hutton. Austin built their home in Guilderland and raised five children. He believed in a strong work ethic which was shown in his many years of employment at the General Electric Company in Schenectady.

In his retirement, Austin enjoyed trips to Fla. and family vacations to Cape Cod and the Adirondacks. He was an active member of the Western Turnpike Golf Club. He also found pleasure in tending to his gardens, lawn and property. In addition to his children, Richard Hutton, Peggy Oddy (Kenneth), Mary Hutton (Stan Lis), Dan Hutton (Susan) and John Hutton (Mary), Austin is survived by his five grandchildren, Aaron, Daniel, Katie, Lauren and Michael; and two great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Ellie, who affectionately referred to him as grandpa. Austin took pride in their achievements and milestones.

The family extends their gratitude to the compassionate and dedicated healthcare aides who provided support and care to Austin in his later years.

Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Wednesday, December 13, at DeMarco and Stone Funeral Home, 5216 Western Ave, Guilderland. His memorial service will follow promptly at noon. The burial will take place at Memory Gardens, Colonie.

Austin believed in the power of kindness and selflessness. In his remembrance, the family encourages you to honor Austin by performing random acts of kindness, lending a helping hand, or simply spreading love to those around you. Online condolences may be offered at demarcostonefuneralhome.com
