Lillian Marie “Ree Ree” Singer Wechsler, age 93, passed peacefully away on Tuesday, December 20, 2016, in San Antonio, Texas.
From her birth in Chesapeake, Ohio, on December 16, 1923 to her death on Tuesday, she was the center of a large loving family and nourished many long-time relationships with treasured friends. Marie married the love of her life in 1943, George Wechsler, who joined the Coast Guard and went off to serve in World War II. After the war, Marie worked for DOD for 32 years, in both Washington DC and Jacksonville, Florida, and she and George settled in Orange Park, Florida for 31 years. Marie will be remembered as a strong, witty, bright, loving woman. She loved teaching Bible study classes, doing challenging crossword puzzles, appreciated any kind of ballroom dancing, enjoyed good food and a nice glass of white wine. She had a keen sense of fashion, and loved jewelry and manicures.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Virginia and Lula, brothers Alta Carl Jr., Del, Donald and Max, great-granddaughter Sarah and her husband of 59 years, George. She is survived by sisters Ona Mae, Myrtle Belle and Gloria. Also left to honor Marie and remember her love are her two sons, Richard and Robert, and daughter-in-law Peggy. Her legacy also lives on in her 9 grandchildren, Denise, Richard, Bobby, Dawn, Lance, Shane, Jennifer, Ali and Amy; and her 23 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Saturday, December 31, 2016 with visitation from 10-11 AM at Hardage-Giddens Holly Hill Funeral Home, 3601 Old Jennings Rd, Middleburg, FL 32068. 904-282-9336.
