ORANGE PARK - Both Ridgeview and St. Johns Country Day School volleyball team earned their next step into the region playoffs, but the irony is that both opponents have already been faced and with not-so-good results; unbeaten Ponte Vedra for Ridgeview and Christ’s Church Academy, who gave the Spartans their lone loss of the season.

Ridgeview, in region 1-5A, defeated Daytona Beach Seabreeze 3-0 in a swift and powerful effort from freshman middle hitter Haley Robinson. Robinson commanded the defensive front for the Panthers with five blocks on the night that forced Seabreeze to alter their offensive approach.
For Ridgeview, top score Elaina Reynolds was on her game with a team-high 15 kills.
Ponte Vedra, 23-0, dispatched of Orange Park in their region opener.
For St. Johns, the region 1-2A going got a little rough with St. John Lutheran forcing a fourth game with an overtime win in the third game. The Lady Spartans prevailed though in dominating fashion behind hitter Maddie Moody’s 14 scoring hits to win 25-15 to take the 3-1 match. The Lady Spartans got a just-as-good effort from Lauryn Mateo who added 13 kills as St. Johns was firing on all cylinders over the net.
For Fleming Island, the season ended with a well-known opponent in top-ranked and unbeaten Tallahassee Leon, but the Golden Eagles made the Lady Lions again go five games for their title. Leon and Fleming Island last played in a region final two years ago won 3-0 games by Leon.
Fleming Island went toe-to-toe with the Lions with four hitters in double figures; Emma Richard and Jasmine Robinson both with 16, Sydney Rupert with 12 and Maya Walker with 11.
