GREEN COVE SPRINGS – The Vineyard Transitional Center took another step closer to becoming a reality on Saturday, July 20, with a Pool Tournament at The Corner Pocket. The benefit and auction raised $1,160 toward the construction of the temporary facility that will house as many as 16 newly-released inmates from the Clay County Jail to provide them with 90 days of counseling, life skills and job training. From left, Vineyard Founder Pastor John Sanders accepts the check from Corner Pocket owner Cheri Starnes, Vineyard Board Member Teresa Scott and Vineyard Executive Secretary Joseph Smith. Sanders thanked Starnes and her staff, especially Noel Sternes and baker April Tashjainn for making cheesecakes, Tammy and Mel Leonard for running the tournament and Penney Retirement Community for printing signs and marketing.
