GREEN COVE SPRINGS- To celebrate 904 day, the Village Improvement Association gave out free bagged lunches for teachers at Green Cove Springs Junior High.

"The junior high is our adopted school for the VIA," said Cheri Starnes, owner of The Corner Pocket. "And whenever we have the opportunity to do something nice for the teachers we always like to jump in and help."

In a partnership with The Corner Pocket, members of the VIA had previously met as a group to personally pack the lunches for the special day.

Then, on Wednesday, VIA President Larianne Stutts and Starnes met up with GCSJH principal James DeMarie to deliver the packages and set up the goodies in the school's library.

Stutts said it's always a pleasure to give back to the local community. And with it being 904 day, they felt it was the perfect opportunity to do so.

Jacksonville's very own "904 day" occurs every Sept. 4 and annually seeks to celebrate local businesses, organizations and destinations that make the city what it is.

Stutts said it is important to celebrate and give back to local teachers.

"We feel like in doing something nice for the teachers, we're in turn helping the students as well," Stutts said. "Because happy teachers make happy students."
