Tuckers Farmhouse still providing unique venue for special occasions

‘Best day ever’

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – Tucker’s Farmhouse in Green Cove Springs is a venue where many different events are held, like weddings, birthday parties and graduation celebrations. Photographers also routinely use the venue for photoshoots.

Jim Tucker owns the property and has been there for the past 35 years. Tucker was born and reared in Green Cove Springs and purchased the property in 1985. He and his wife live there and maintain the property.

“It’s a lot of work,” said Tucker. “It’s a lot of hard work. I used to truck for a living. I just thought that was hard. Working here every day, taking care of everything that keeps tearing up and doing little projects, it’s a whole lot harder than me hauling cars.”

So how did Jim Tucker’s home end up become a desired location for events?

“My son had his wedding party here, and you know everything goes on Facebook,” Tucker said. “We had a little girl that I watched her grow up, and she wanted to get married out here, so we let her get married out here, and it just kind of turned into a wedding venue.”

It wasn’t Tucker’s intent to turn the property into an event venue; it just happened. He isn’t, however, particularly disturbed by it. According to Tucker, wedding events have held there for the last four or five years, and he enjoys “getting paid without leaving home.”

The Farmhouse also plays host to corporate events, banquets and anniversary parties.

Tucker is currently expanding the front of the barn. He is continually working to maintain and improve the venue for both himself and the clientele that use it for some of their life’s most important moments.

“It’s fulling,” said Tucker. “Nothing is ever the same. There’s no routine the same each day. Each day is different. That’s just part of it.”

Despite the devasting effect that the COVID-19 pandemic had on many businesses over the past year, Tucker’s Farmhouse, which is located at 3417 Brown Road, has maintained an unexpected level of success.

“I think part of it is that we’re an outside venue,” said Stacee Reape, co-owner of Tucker’s Farmhouse Events, the company that stages the events at the venue. Reape is also Jim Tucker’s daughter. “So I think that people still felt comfortable because everything is outside, and people felt like they could move forward with their weddings. Although we saw that guest counts were less than what people originally expected, they were still able to move forward with their weddings and not having to put their life on hold despite everything going on.”

Moses estimates that in their best year of business, they were able to book around 30 weddings.

The slogan for Tucker’s Farmhouse Events is “Best Day Ever.”

Reape and Moses have stuck to that.

“It’s always been our goal, that we’re giving our couples their best day ever,” said Reape. “We feel like accomplish that by us being their [wedding] coordinators. And us doing all the work that day so they can enjoy their day... that’s what’s kind of made us unique, and that’s kind of been our niche in what we’ve done here. We’re part of the package here so they can enjoy their day and truly have their best day ever.”
