ORANGE PARK – Although the wait for a table often was more than 45 minutes, guests didn’t complain last week at the Texas Roadhouse on Blanding Boulevard.
Maybe it’s because some of the servers were wearing guns and badges.
The annual Tip a Cop fundraiser to help Clay County’s Special Olympic athletes not only brought awareness to the program, but it also stuffed the organization’s coffers by more than $10,000.
“It was always busy,” said Clay County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Zach Cox said. “But it was worth it. We helped a lot of athletes.”
Members of the sheriff’s office, including Sheriff Michelle Cook, worked as servers from Dec. 14-16 and they solicited tips and donations for Special Olympics.
The money will help defer costs of attending the World Games at the Walt Disney World’s Wide World of Sports in Lake Buena Vista from June 5-10.
