• A Jacksonville man was shot by a Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputy when the man tried to back over the deputy during a traffic stop near the intersection of Primrose Avenue and Alligator Boulevard in Middleburg. The man, Timothy Van Griffin, survived his wounds.


• Retired Army Maj. Frank W. Towers told guests during a Memorial Day Celebration at Camp Blanding fallen soldiers buried abroad should be returned to the United States.


• A $3,28 million project to replace asbestos water mains from Wells Road to Kingsley Avenue along Plainfield Avenue is being completed on schedule.

• Two ordinances restricting alcohol sales at three Wells Road nightclubs are put on hold until a federal court rules on the ordinance’s constitutionality.


• The YMCA and Mercy Network and Foundation of the Personal Empowerment Center dedicated a group home on Doctors Lake Drive to help the homeless.

• The Clay County School Board approves the purchase of 17.5 acres at County Road 315 across from the McRae Fire Station for a fuel facility annex.

• The Occupational License Law is repealed the by Clay County Board of Commissioners after it determines the law is unenforceable.

• The Government Study Commission suggests the lifting of a freeze on funds so postage can be paid and a court reporter can be hired.

• The BCC approves a bond issue totaling $4.5 million for road improvements.
