Anthony Washington’s murder trial opens at the Clay County Courthouse. Washington is charged with killing U.S. Navy Cmdr. Alphonso Doss in 2014 at the Astoria Motel in Orange Park.
The Clay County School Board approves St. Johns Classical Academy’s charter, but it rejects the application from the Clay Classical Academy.
The Orange Park Town Council takes $87,263 from its reserved funds to balance its 2016-17 budget.

Iraq war veteran Nathaniel Helmuth gets a new 2,800-square-foot house from the Military Warrior Support Foundation.
The Town of Orange Park passes a $25 million budget.
Traffic citations for turning right on red without coming to a complete stop are dismissed by Green Cove Springs City Attorney L.J. Arnold III.

More than 190 residents came to Patterson Elementary during the rain to tell the Florida Department of Transportation there is a need for a new bridge across the St. Johns River to connect Fleming Island and Greenbier in St. Johns County.
Target Corporation is considering plans to convert the old Montgomery Ward’s building into the first Super Target in Northeast Florida on Wells Road.
Clay County Animal Control is burglarized and four animals were removed from their cages during the night.

The county commission votes 3-2 to reimburse $193,606 to the recreation account after getting a refund from the Barge Canal by Gov. Lawton Chiles instead of using it to balance the budget.
The Clay County School Board adopts a $123 million budget.
County officials visit the Glynn County Jail in Brunswick, Georgia, to get ideas ahead of an expansion of the jail in Clay.

The county commission unanimously agreen with the county attorney it’s not double-taxing municipalities.
Clay County stands firm on its offer of $1,450 an acre for the 333-acre Rosemary Hill Landfill, although Green Cove Springs doesn’t believe the offer doesn’t include equipment.
The BCC agrees to designate Bayard Road as limited access for one year while a gate is built to keep four-wheel drive trucks from tearing up the property for the 12 owners.
