Green Cove Springs city leaders expect an economic boom, including a supermarket inside the city limits, once the First Coast Expressway is completed.

Orange Park residents got their first electric bill with a new 6.8% tax increase to generate an additional $759,000 for the town.

Building Component Supply, which will manufacture roof and floor trusses and wall panels in Green Cove Springs, will hire 60 new employees.

The Green Cove Springs City Council made plans to host an open forum meeting to discuss alleged ethics violations against City Manager Don Bowles. He was accused of campaigning for a city council candidate on city time.

Clay County joined the world mourning the death of Meinhardt Raabe, a former resident of Penney Farms, who played the munchkin coroner in the classic film “The Wizard of Oz.” He died April 9.

Kirby Green, executive director of the St. Johns River Water Management District, wrote a guest column declaring “Water conservation is vital issue” in proclaiming April as Water Conservation Month.

40 years ago, 1980

A two-year land feud between Clay and Duval counties ended with the Florida Senate voted to return 47.8 acres of the 194 acres lawmakers gave to Clay.

The Board of County Commissioners vote 3-2 to turn back an ordinance allowing beer sales in the county on Sunday from 7 a.m. to midnight.
