Orange Park High students collect donations and other good to help the residents of Haiti following its devastating earthquakes. The students collected $450, 328 T-shirts and boxes of supplies.
The golf course at Reynolds Industrial Park in Green Cove Springs changes its name to River Bend Golf Links from Cattail Creek Golf Course.
St. Johns River Community College inducts 36 students into the Phi Theta Kappa honor society at its Orange Park campus.

30 years ago, 1990
Reatha Johnson, 43, of Green Cove Springs was stabbed 43 times by her husband, Roy Andrew Johnson, during an argument. Despite her injuries, she survived.
Middleburg’s Teryl Orcutt is reported missing after her car is found with the engine running six miles from her home. She eventually was found murdered in a wooded area. Her case remains unsolved.
Richard Fellows agrees to return to the Green Cove Springs City Manager’s job, 15 years after he resigned from the same post.
40 years ago, 1980
Frank William Vermilling of Hallandale is hired as the Green Cove Springs city manager.
John Bradley qualifies for his re-election to his city council seat in Green Cove Springs, while Charles Truesdell and Gerald McCrary qualify to run for Leamon Johns open seat.
Groundbreaking ceremonies are held for a new fire station on Fleming Island with BCC Chairman Wayne Spivey doing the honors.
