• The county commission sets its tentative budget at $286,108,523 with a 8.101 millage rate.

• The Green Cove Springs City Council approves spending $210,000 to do asphalt overlaying and some wastewater system repairs, and another $200,000 for an Ocala firm to refurbish two existing transformers at the Chapman substation.

• The Clay County Health Department reports a 2% drop in obesity rates among children aged 2-5.

• The Florida Department of Transportation reports the completion of a guardrail project on the Shands Bridge.

• The Clay County Sheriff’s Office posts a "Be on the Lookout" for Richardo Velazquez of Jacksonville and two other men for the kidnapping and shooting of Josue Torres near the intersection of Blanding Boulevard and Aquarius Concourse.

• Citizens for Term Limits and Accountability Committee asks a judge to clarify how its members can proceed with a recall effort against the BCC in the wake of an illegal dumping scandal investigated by the FBI and FDLE.

30 years ago, 1995

• Hygema House Movers took the historic home at the corner of Moody Avenue and Bliss Road near Orange Park and relocated it to the Clay County Fairgrounds.

• The Clay County Department of Environmental Services announced that residents can now recycle colored plastic, magazines and catalogs.

• The Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrested Neil Edwin Cook, 30, of Middleburg, and charged him with manslaughter for giving his brother a gun that he used to commit suicide.

40 years ago, 1985

• The Green Cove Springs City Council votes to give itself a pay raise from $1,500 a year to $2,400.

• The Clay Theatre in Green Cove Springs welcomes the feature film, “Weird Science.” Tickets were $2.25 and $1.50 for children, while balcony seats were $2.50.

• After three commissioners wanted him to resign, Clay County Administrator Charlie Rosebrough said he wanted time to seek new employment before leaving his position.
