• The Clay County Sheriff’s Office acquired an M-Vac system to improve obtaining more accurate DNA samples at crime scenes.

• The Green Cove Springs City Council rejected the Clay County District School’s offer to buy the old Station 20 at 21 Roderigo Ave. for $85,000, although it had been appraised at nearly $134,000.

• Concert on the Green and the Clay Education Foundation partners to promote art and music scholarships, competitions and incentives for Clay County students.

10 years ago, 2014

• A judge ordered the Clay Family Policy Forum to allow a forensic examination of a political survey taken of school board candidate Sandra Dunnavant after she claimed her answers were falsified.

• A group of residents form the Citizens for a Greater Orange Park to gain better communication with the Town of Orange Park on capital projects.

• If absentee ballots are any indication, Supervisor of Elections Chris Chambless said Clay County is on pace to break the county’s record for the gubernatorial election. Chambless said more than 18,000 absentee ballots had been requested.

20 years ago, 2004

• The Federal Drug Enforcement Agency arrested Jeffrey Goodson and Jason Brozek, both of Orange Park, after seizing more than 20 pounds of marijuana that was packaged for street sale.

• The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission joined the Clay County Sheriff’s Office to search the St. Johns River in Green Cove Springs for Nadeen Hicks, who was killed in a boating accident.

• First Coast Technical Institute announced plans to close its campus in Reynolds Park in Green Cove Springs.

30 years ago, 1994

• Microbrewery Hops and Grill and Bar opened to much fanfare on Wells Road, just west of the town limits of Orange Park.

• The SWAT team from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office surrounded a Green Cove Springs apartment on Pringle Circle where Jules Vernon Back was holed up following an armed robbery of a Lil Champ store on U.S. Highway 17,

• Orange Park Town Council members argued whether council member Rene Wilke ordered an Orange Park Police officer to confront a resident for allegedly illegally dumping fill dirt. Mayor Edna Griffith asked for an investigation by the State Attorney’s Office.

40 years ago, 1984

• Republican Ann B. Wiggins touted her endorsement by the Clay County Education Association, a teacher’s union, in a pre-election debate with opponent Jesse T. Tynes, Clay County Superintendent of Schools.

• The movie, “Purple Rain,” by iconic musician Prince, was the feature playing at the Clay Theatre in Green Cove Springs.

• After two hours of deliberations, a jury found Carl Elbert Mosley of Middleburg guilty of murdering two Middleburg men and attempting to kill a third man.
