ORANGE PARK – Nearly two years after an arsonist set fire to the historic St. Simon Missionary Baptist Church, church officials and congregation will celebrate the groundbreaking for its new sanctuary on Saturday, Feb. 25., from 1-3 p.m.
Elder Moyenda Ambakisye, Pastor, will lead the groundbreaking at 1331 Miller St.
Fire ripped through the church on March 26, 2021, destroying the 3,200-square-foot church that opened in 1965.
Parishioners were undaunted by the fire and attended services in the parking lot.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office and Orange Park Police Department don’t believe the fire at the historic Black church was racially motivated.
