FLEMING ISLAND – The Annual Whitey’s Fish Camp Ribs Cook-Off on April 27 was a smoking success.

Not only were customers able to feast on spareribs, but they also raised $4,271 to help Clay County Sheriff’s Office Dep. Kenneth Patrick, whose 1-year-old son, Ethan, is suffering with a rare case of cancer. Marty “Gadget” Cline and Melissa Calcote organized the event, which included 12 rib competitors and 14 side-dish teams.

Smokin’ Bones BBQ’s Tony and Heather Raish were voted best in ribs, followed by Wes Watson’s Cowboy Q in second, with Jason and Wyatt Harden’s Beer and Bones BBQ in third.

In the Side Dish competition, BBGY BBQ’s Luke Kneipp finished first, while Rich Wilkinson’s Rich’s Smoke Ring BBQ and Catering was second, and John Peterson’s Rolling Smoke BBQ and Grill was third.
