ORANGE PARK – Students at St. Johns Country Day School raised awareness and funds for local charities in two pageant-style events this month.
First, the Mr. St. Johns competition recruited high school boys to a good-natured competition in dance, fashion and general entertainment. Hilarity was the word of the evening as nearly a dozen young men displayed their formal wear, donned costumes and danced in front of a packed auditorium to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
Attendees voted with their dollars by stuffing boxes with cash to vote for their favorite contestants for the People’s Choice Award, and judges determined a slate of other titles.
The evening was a rousing success and raised more than $3,100 for the American Cancer Society.
Winners included: People's Choice Award: Joseph Shimko, junior; Mr. Congeniality: Luke Robinson, sophomore; Fifth Runner-Up: Tyler Rodriguez, senior; Fourth Runner-Up: Alex Dimmick, sophomore; Third Runner-Up: James Wilson, sophomore; Second Runner-Up: Joseph Shimko, junior; and, Mr. St. Johns 2019: Max Monroe, sophomore;
Congratulations and hearty thanks also to the contest co-chairs, Abbey Lantinberg, and Amelia Dyer, both of San Jose.
The Miss St. Johns pageant followed with eight contestants demonstrating their skills in dance,
talent competition, casual wear, formal wear and Q&A. The pageant was a huge success and raised more than $3,800 for Best Buddies of Jacksonville. Hearty congratulations to all the contestants and particularly
to: Crowd Favorite: Delaney Payton, junior; Miss Fashionista: Bianca Horen, sophomore; Miss Congeniality: Elizabeth Stoeber, junior; Third Runner-Up: Bianca Horen, sophomore; Second Runner-Up: Delaney Payton, junior; First Runner-Up: Nasua Williams, junior, and Miss St. Johns 2019: Elizabeth Stoeber, junior.
