GREEN COVE SPRINGS – The Foundation for Scottish Athletics, based in Jacksonville, has been awarded the 2024 Scottish Athletics Masters World Championship by the Scottish Masters Athletics International.
The organization will host the event at the Clay County Fairgrounds on Oct. 5-6. The championship will feature as many as 150 athletes worldwide, competing in nine events, including the famous Caber Toss, in their respective age divisions.
In past years, the world championships were at locations around the globe, including Neuendorf, Switzerland; Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada; and Hafnarfjörður, Iceland.
Clay County Commissioner Mike Cella, who also serves as Chairman of the Clay County Tourism Development Council, said, “We are super excited about hosting this world-class event and look forward to welcoming the world to Clay County.”
In addition to the sports events, the event will feature a Celtic festival showcasing Celtic music, food and vendors. The event also welcomes McTavish Spirits, the official bourbon for the 2024 Masters World Championship. The famous Scottish author and actor Graham McTavish is known for performing in popular movies and TV shows such as Outlander, The Hobbit trilogy, Preacher and many more.
This is a unique opportunity to witness the best athletes from around the world compete and enjoy the flavors and culture of Scotland.
“Showcasing Clay County’s beauty and small-town charm to fellow athletes is a dream come true,” said Dawn Schull, Foundation for Scottish Athletics President.
