Rodriguez tops 3A region weightlifts

FLAGLER PALM COAST - Oakleaf High's Cristian Rodriquez won his 139 pound weight class in Tradition weightlifting to take the Region 1-3A championship as the Knights battled among the stalwarts of Florida's weightlifting programs Saturday at Flagler Palm Coast High School.

Rodriguez had the day's biggest Olympic Snatch lift with his 160 finish; a miss at 170, then won the clean and jerk by 10 pounds with a 230 before the two frontrunners; Rodriguez and Niceville's Sebastian Brown ended their duel with both missing their third bench press lifts; 230 for Rodriguez, 220 for Brown to secure Rodriguez's title.

Oakleaf wound up seventh in team points with 10 points with Spruce Creek dominating with 46 points for the team title. Navarre was second with 39 with Milton third at 24.

In the Olympic scoring, Spruce Creek beat Navarre, 43-28 with Pace third at 27. Oakleaf was seventh again with 12 points.

Finishing in the top 10 in Traditional were Noah Shevchook, eighth at 129; Isaiah Israel, eighth at 139; Elijah Shevchook, eighth at 169; Syncere White, 10th at 199; Nasir Bailey, ninth at 219; Krishawn Sanders eighth at Unlimited and Prince Savea, fourth at Unlimited.

In the top 10 for Olympic scoring were Noah Shevchook, seventh at 129; Elijah Shevchook, seventh at 169; Champ Spangler, fourth at 183 and Prince Savea, fifth at Unlimited.
