Roberts earns Clay Farm Bureau Ag scholarship

ORANGE PARK – When Mary Roberts starts at the University of Florida on Monday, May 12, the senior at Middleburg High will already have her Associate of Arts degree from St. Johns River State College and an extra $1,000 from the Florida Farm Bureau.

Roberts, who’s worked as a legal secretary for Attorney David King for the past 16 months, was awarded the money last Monday as the winner of the Katy Hendry Scholarship for Agriculture from the Bureau.

“The secret to success is hanging out with good and successful people,” Farm Bureau President Gayward Hendry said. The scholarship was established in 2013 following the passing of Wilkerson Junior High Agriculture teacher Katy Hendry.

Roberts, who will study Agriculture Education, has been a Clay County Agricultural Fair volunteer and Middleburg High Future Farmer of America President and a member of the National Technical Honor Society.

“I appreciate the generosity of the Farm Bureau,” Roberts said. “Through young farmers and ranchers, I hope this goes beyond myself.”
