MIDDLEBURG—The much-needed but much-dreaded road widening project on County Road 220, which is expected to create a traffic nightmare, will start by mid-November.
Motorists should expect delays as crews start work to widen the roadway between Knight Box Road and Hollars Place west of Henley Road. The county said the project will be done in phases.
Phase 1 will widen Baxley Road from west of Henley Road to Chief Ridaught Trail from two lanes to four. The work will take 15 months and include improvements at the intersection of CR 220 and Henley Road.
Phase 2 takes the four-lane project from Chief Ridaught Trail to Knight Boxx Trail, including rebuilding the two-lane bridge at Little Black Creek to a four-lane bridge. The job will take another 16 months.
Several detours will be in place, starting in mid-to-late November and continuing for the duration of the projects. All businesses and residents will have full access to their property during both projects.
