ORANGE PARK - Ridgeview High middle blocker and Middleburg High middle hitter Connor Rahn both know each other’s face intimately with the duo facing off in one of the more dramatic finishes in the recent district tournament championship with Rahn and her Lady Broncos prevailing, and the two have one more competitive arena to go into as both players have been nominated as player of year hopefuls for the 2022 Florida Dairy Farmers Miss Volleyball player of the year award.

Both girls being juniors, the rivalry will continue one more year with Robinson’s net prowess and leadership propelling the Lady Panthers to a second consecutive region 1-5A championship game while Rahn’s Lady Broncos completed their final season under the tutelage of long-time coach Carrie Prewitt with a clash with Ocala Vanguard sending both teams home from region playoff play; Middleburg in quarterfinals and Ridgeview in the region final. Vanguard finished as a Final Four team with a state semifinal loss to champion Jensen Beach.

Robinson finished her season with 305 scoring kills with 132 blocks; a Class 5A top statistic, while Rahn finished with 371 kills and 39 blocks.

In the Class 5A coach of the year nominees are both Middleburg High’s Carrie Prewitt and Ridgeview High’s Stephen Henry.

In Class 2A, St. Johns Country Day School’s Ashlyn Anderson, with 480 kills and 43 blocks, was nominated with coach Traci Livingston guiding the Lady Spartans to a region semifinal finish.

In Class 6A, Ponte Vedra High’s Zeta Washington was nominated as player of the year with Sharks coach John Goings, who coached the Sharks to a region semifinal finish.

In Class 4A, Bishop Kenny’s Final Four finish got senior Allison Cavanaugh a player of year nod with coach Suzanne Winkler getting nominated for coach of the year.
