GREEN COVE SPRINGS- The Outreach Committee of St. Giles Presbyterian Church donated holiday gifts for a good cause last Tuesday.
To support the Quigley House ‘Adopt a Family Program’, church members donated around 19 boxes filled to the brim with games, clothing items, stuffed animals and much more–all for those who need it the most.
Church members Lynn and Richard gladly delivered the items, welcomed with a grateful spirit by Quigley House staff.
“The congregation of our church never fails to amaze us with their generosity and support,” said Lynn. “It is heartwarming and inspiring.”
The annual program invites members of the public–including local business and churches–to purchase and donate a range of wishlist items to about 50 survivors of domestic and sexual abuse, along with their families.
Quigley House Director of Development Jackie Krug said that on Christmas Day, shelter families will receive the gifts personally wrapped and their name on the front. Families will also receive a holiday meal.
Krug said over the next few days after Christmas, the organization will continue to spread holiday cheer by also giving out gifts to outreach families in need.
Krug said it’s important to acknowledge what people are going through during the Christmas season. Although joyful for some, some families don’t have a home or support system, which is why she said it’s important to spread awareness and give back.
If you are interested in helping Quigley House, there are other ways to support at any time of the year. The organization has a wishlist of ongoing needs for donations, as well as legacy and matching gifts, vehicle donations and Amazon smile.
All proceeds go towards offering 24/7, free emergency shelter to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
