Quigley House gets CDC grant for new rape prevention service

ORANGE PARK – The Florida Council Against Sexual Violence and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Rape Prevention Education-Expanding Community Capacity to End Sexual Violence grant has been awarded to Quigley House.

The grant will fund prevention activities that prevent the first-time occurrence of sexual violence and reduce risk factors and enhance protective factors linked to sexual violence perpetration and victimization.

Quigley House will address the following strategies: promoting social norms that protect against violence, teaching skills to prevent sexual violence, providing opportunities to empower and support girls and women, creating protective environments and supporting victims/survivors to lessen harm. Clay County’s Quigley House, the only dual certified Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Center has been approved for a new Florida Council Against Sexual Violence grant.

The new program will address the prevention of sexual violence, especially as it affects area youth. Quigley House provides the following services free to survivors of domestic and/or sexual violence: emergency shelter, 24-hour hotline, individual and group counseling, victim advocacy, Injunction for Protection legal assistance, court advocacy, case management, information and referrals, pet shelter (one of a few in the state), economic justice, and child advocacy.
