Faith walk: Psalms

Posted

I was looking around through the Psalms trying to find a good one to make the subject of this Faith Walk.

Then I realized my problem was that I was trying to choose one Psalm when they are all so great! So I will choose parts of several of the 150 Psalms contained in the Bible.

As I perused the great collection of words with authoritative spiritual power, my mind kept going back to Psalm 46.

God is our refuge and strength,

an ever-present help in trouble.

(Psalm 46:1)

If we KNOW He is a refuge and strength for us, there is nothing left for us to fear. The next, immediate verses of the Psalm (46) tell us:

Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.

Powerful Psalms have affected my life in deep ways. I remember when I “discovered” Psalm 1. Of course, it was always there. But when I realized the impact of it on my life, I stood in are. Read the first three verse of Psalm 1. They are a powerful promise to the person who walks with God and trusts Him to lead his life. Just see the impact of this passage: It ends with this promise for the Lord’s follower – “whatever he does will prosper.”

As a young man, I attended the youth meetings of my church. There was a standard benediction to every youth meeting. We memorized a verse from the Psalms as our closing prayer for every meeting. I memorized it then and, because it is seared in my memory, I have carried it with me al theses years. The verse is Psalm 19 and the last verse of the Psalm, verse 14. That verse says:

“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart

Be acceptable in Thy sight,

O Lord, my strength and my redeemer.”
