As we continue our look at The Lord’s Prayer we see “Protection”. In Matthew 6:13, Jesus teaches us to pray, "And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one." This verse emphasizes the importance of seeking God's protection from the snares of the enemy. In John 10:10 Jesus articulates the purpose of the enemy. “The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy.”

While the Kingdom of God is near, we must also recognize that Satan has a kingdom of darkness. 1 Peter 5:8 says, ^“Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” Temptation comes from the devil, not from God. Therefore, it's crucial to pray for protection against his schemes.

Ephesians Chapter 6 provides us with a powerful metaphor—the armor of God. Just as a soldier prepares for battle by putting on armor, we too must arm ourselves with the truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and the Word of God. By praying daily and putting on the whole armor of God, we fortify ourselves against the attacks of the enemy.

Protection in prayer extends beyond us as individuals to our families, our livelihoods, our health, our cities, our state, and nation. We lift up our loved ones before God, asking for His divine hedge of protection around them. We pray for God's provision and guidance in our work and finances. We ask for God's healing and restoration in times of sickness and distress. And we intercede for our communities and nations, asking for wisdom and discernment for our leaders.

Praying for protection is not a sign of weakness but of wisdom and faith. It's an acknowledgment of our dependence on God's strength and a declaration of His sovereignty over every aspect of our lives. Let’s join together and commit to daily prayer for protection, trusting in God's unfailing love and care for His children.
