Wife ‘tired’ of arguing charged with killing her husband

ORANGE PARK – A woman was accused of shooting her husband, then leaving his body in the garage while she watched television and slept on the couch before she ran errands the next morning.
Melissa Rothweiler Gholson, 39, of Orange Park, was being held without bond after being charged with second-degree murder after she fired “several” rounds into her husband’s abdomen following an argument at their home at 822 Plymouth Ct. on Oct. 30.
According to the arrest report, she put a .380 handgun in her pocket while she argued with David Gholson early Saturday morning. She tried to shoot him but weren’t any bullets in the chamber, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
The husband ran to the garage where he was fatally shot after she put live rounds in the chamber.
The next day she confessed to her sister about shooting and killing her husband. Deputies performed a wellness check of their home and found him dead.
According to the arrest report, Melissa Gholson told deputies she “was not in fear of her life” and was not defending herself. She said told them she was tired of arguing and wanted it “to stop.”
Gholson will remain in the Clay County Jail without bond. Her next court appearance is Nov. 30.

Woman accidentally drops drugs after asking CCSO for a ride

MIDDLEBURG – A woman was arrested after she dropped a purse containing methamphetamine and pills after she asked a Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputy for a ride.
Malisa Ann Alcorn, 48, of Green Cove Springs, was charged with possession of methamphetamine, Alprazolam and drug paraphernalia after she dropped the purse while she was getting into the deputy’s patrol car.
According to the arrest report, deputies were called to a home on Sesame Street for a disturbance. They found Alcon leaving the home with several bags. They determined she simply was leaving and didn’t commit a crime. She asked the deputy for a ride to a gas station, and as she carried her bags to the car, she dropped the small purse.
The deputy asked what was in the purse. She said, “look in it,” according to the arrest report.
The deputy found a bag with methamphetamine, two cut straws. She also was found with a razor blade, a pipe and six pills.
Her bond was set at $57,508.

CCSO: Minnesota man arrested for having sex with babysitter

CLAY COUNTY – A 36-year-old man was arrested for having unlawful sexual activity with a 16-year-old babysitter.
Phillip Ashley Scott, of Hastings, Minnesota, was charged with two counts of having an affair with the girl, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said. Scott met the girl while she was babysitting for the family of a woman he was dating.
The girl’s mother called the sheriff’s office on May 22 to tell them her daughter was involved in a sexual relationship with Scott. The mother took her daughter’s cellphone and turned it over to the sheriff’s office’s cybercrime section. They found evidence of the relationship, including an encounter in his van at Little Rain Lake Community Park in Keystone Heights.
A warrant was issued on June 3 for his arrest. He was arrested in Minnesota.
Scott’s bond was set at $150,006.

Man restrained after fighting with three CCSO deputies

MIDDLEBURG – A Jacksonville man had to be tied down to the backseat of a Clay County Sheriff’s Office patrol car after he fought with three deputies who were responding to a man who was inside an abandoned house on Sunnyside Drive.
Clifford Putnam, 36, was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence and possession of drug paraphernalia after deputies found him inside the home at 2:40 a.m. on Oct. 29.
According to the arrest report, Putnam initially was holed up inside a house that had several broken windows and no electricity. He fought with deputies three times when they tried to put him inside a car. Once he was placed in the backseat, he banged his head against the cage that separated the front and backseats.
Deputies were forced to use Violent Prisoner Restraint straps to immobilize him.
Putnam’s bond was set at $31,508.

House destroyed by a woman angry over her cellphone

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS – A woman who was agitated after her cellphone stopped working was arrested for burning her home down.
Linda Michele Buckler, 56, of Keystone Heights, was charged with second-degree arson after the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and Fire Rescue said Buckler dumped a can of gasoline taken from a neighbor’s shed on two beds and a couch at 6509 Baylor Ave. and started the fire.
Her bond was set at $25,003.
