Two in jail after shooting at man during robbery
OAKLEAF – Two men were being held without bond after they shot at a man and robbed him on Sept. 21 near Whitfield Park.
Cemarye Ka’Rae McSwain, 19, of Jacksonville, and Jelijah Damonte Barnes, 18, of Middleburg, with armed robbery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after they set up a man on social media for the robbery by offering to sell him a pair of Air Jordan sneakers, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said.
Neighbors called the CCSO after hearing gunshots. The found a victim who said two men stole his wallet, as well as shell casings from two different handguns at the scene. A resident then found the victim’s wallet in a cul de sac. They also watched video of two men running from a car abandoned in the cul de sac.
Investigators tracked down the owner of the car in Jacksonville. McSwain and Barnes both were at the same residence.
Both men were arrested on Sept. 22. Their next court appearance is Oct. 19.

Man 71, charged with molesting, abusing girl
KEYSTONE HEIGHTS – A 71-year-old man was arrested on Sept. 23 and charged with molesting and abusing a girl five years ago.
Robert Bruce Beckham, of Keystone Heights, was charged with three counts of molesting and one count of sexually abusing a girl who was “between the ages of 5 to 9 years old,” according the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

Starke woman killed in wrong-way crash on U.S. 301
MIDDLEBURG – The Florida Highway Patrol is investigation why a 32-year-old Starke woman was driving south in the northbound lanes on Sept. 25 on U.S. Highway 301, triggering a head-one collision.
The woman, whom FHP refused to identify, was killed when she struck an SUV with three occupants, including a 5-year-old girl. The driver of the SUV was from Middleburg, while the two passengers were from Raiford. No suffered serious injuries.
The wrong-way driver wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, FHP said. Her car rolled into the median, prompting the closure of all northbound lanes near County Road 218 until early Sept. 26.

Pair from Jacksonville arrested for hiding guns
during traffic stop
ORANGE PARK – A traffic stop for an unreadable license tag led to the arrest of two Jacksonville men for concealing handguns without a permit.
Hunter Michael Rorabaugh, 22, and McKenzie Phillip Storm Scott, 24, were charged with having unholstered guns under the seat of their car during the stop Sept. 27 on Wells Road. During the stop, K-9 Cash alerted deputies of a scent of drugs in the car. Scott also was charged with possessing marijuana and a firearm as a convicted felon.
Scott’s bond was set at $77,508.

Two women caught during shoplifting spree at OP Mall
ORANGE PARK – A pair of Jacksonville women were arrested following a shoplifting spree at the Orange Park Mall.
Bethann Lynn Russell, 32, and Crystal Dorothea Spangler, 39, were charged with grand theft on Sept. 23 after mall security spotted them stuffing merchandise in bags in several mall stores.
Since the women worked in tandem, they were charged with grand theft, according to CCSO.

Man jailed following fight over cellphone charger
MIDDLEBURG – An argument over a cellphone charger escalated into an argument – and an arrest for aggravated battery and assault with a deadly weapon.
Brandon Alexander Webb, 28, of Gainesville, was charged on Sept. 23 with striking his ex-wife after their argument spilled into their front yard,
Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies said the victim had wounds to his hand and forehead, as well as dirt on her pants that suggested she was knocked to the ground during the argument.
The ex-wife told CCSO Web loaded a handgun and pointed it at her during the argument. Webb denied the claim.
Webb was released after posting a $75,006 bond.
