Jacksonville man recovered after falling into Black Creek

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – Shortly before heading down the Black Creek Sunday, Steven D. Doktor posted a final picture on his Facebook page.
It showed the brownish wave behind a 20-foot boat speeding along the popular waterway. The post had two words: “Creek time.”
Three hours later, units from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Green Cove Springs Police Department and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission marine units were trying to locate the Jacksonville man after he fell off the boat and did not resurface.
“At some point, and for some unknown reason, he lost his grip and fell into the water,” said FWC information officer Karen Parker. “He did not resurface.”
Doktor’s body was located shortly after the search resumed Monday morning about a mile west of U.S. Highway 17 near Jessie Island. He was recovered at 10 a.m.
By then, nearly 20 friends and family gathered at the Black Creek Marina waiting for word. They often peered toward the creek, hoping to see anyone leaving the scene with information.
Doktor, 34, fell while sitting on the edge of the port side of the boat while holding onto the T-top, Parker said. There were four other people in the boat when he fell at 5:36 p.m.
Two jet skiers said the boat passed them at a high rate of speed in the undeveloped section where speed isn’t restricted.
As the July 4 holiday approaches and activity on area rivers and creeks are certain to increase, Parker emplored boaters to exercise caution.
“One missing boater is one too many,” she said.
Also on Monday, authorities recovered the body of a missing 4-year-old girl in a Argyle Forest neighborhood retention pond. The girl was reported missing after wandering away from her backyard early Monday and found two hours later.

Man’s bond revoked after he exposes himself at Clay County Jail

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – A Starke man who was already in the Clay County Jail after being arrested for issuing two written threats to commit bodily injury, now faces additional charges for exposing himself through a food service flap in his jail cell.
Alejandero Moriyon, 27, of Suwannee, was charged with battery on a detention officer and lewd and lascivious behavior toward a detention officer following separate incidents.
Moriyon was arrested on Nov. 25 in Bradford County on a Clay County warrant for sending written threats. Once back at Clay, a jail employee said Moriyon exposed himself through his cell door while she was dispensing meals on May 28, according to the arrest report. He also was charged with kicking and spitting on a detention officer after setting off the emergency call button so he could speak to female deputies on June 2.
As officers tried to detain Moriyon, he said, “You’re so beautiful. You’re an angel. You’re a princess and I love you” into the speaker.
Moriyon originally was being held on a $250,012 bond, but Judge Michael Sharrit revoked it on June 24.

CCSO: Middleburg man arrested for selling grandmother’s jewelry

MIDDLEBURG – A 31-year-old man was arrested after Clay County Sheriff’s Office investigators said he took and sold $210,000 worth of jewelry from his grandmother while she was out of state tending to family members during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Brandon Ashton Hunt, of Middleburg, was charged with grand theft, and four counts each of dealing in stolen property and giving false information to a pawnbroker.
According to the arrest report, the grandmother allowed Hunt to stay at her house while she was away. CCSO said the items were taken from her safe between Jan. 19, 2020 and last May. Agents said Hunt sold his grandmother’s jewelry on five different occasions while she was away.
Included in the list of missing jewelry were a pair of diamond and gold earrings that were sold to a jewelry shop on Wells Road for $1,000. Hunt assured the store the earrings weren’t stolen. CCSO was able to lift Hunt’s fingerprint off the bill of sale. Other items included two bracelets and a ring.
Hunt’s bond was set at $110,021. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 19.

Couple face drug charges after being caught in stolen van

ORANGE PARK – A Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputy who pulled over a van that was reported stolen in California wound up uncovering crack cocaine, fentanyl and eight syringes.
Jason Donald Northrup, 33, of Jacksonville, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and cocaine with intent to sell, manufacture or deliver and driving with a suspended license, while Arianna Gooch, 22, of Orange Park, was charged with possession of fentanyl, cocaine and drug paraphernalia.
According to the arrest report, a CCSO deputy saw the van at the intersection of Blanding Boulevard and Wells Road on June 23. The van was pulled over in the Orange Park High parking lot and both occupants were detained until K-9 Ory completed a “sniff” search of the vehicle. Once alerted to the likely presence of drugs, deputies found a plastic bag with fentanyl and another bag labeled “crack” behind the front seats. The cocaine had been divided into five separate packets. They also found 70 empty plastic bags and a scale in a backpack.
Northrup, whose bond was set at $105,007, said he was loaned the van from someone known as “Money Mike.”
Gooch’s bond was set at $64,510.

Man arrested for extorting former girlfriend to resume relationship

ORANGE PARK – A 50-year-old man was arrested after the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said he tried to extort his former girlfriend into reconciling their broken relationship.
Tracy Alan Robinson of Orange Park was charged on June 25 with telling his former girlfriend he would “maliciously threaten to accuse the victim of a crime” if she didn’t meet him at his house on April 28, according to the arrest report.
CCSO investigated his threats and determined they were “inconsistent.”

Habitual traffic offender caught with 14.6 grams of crystal meth

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – An alert Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputy stopped a black Ford pickup on U.S. Highway 17 on June 28 after the license plate was reported to belonging to a blue Chevrolet pickup, only to learn the driver had several outstanding traffic warrants.
And in the process, Chadwick Lugene Shelton, 43, of Green Cove Springs, was charged with possession of methamphetamine, Lortab and drug paraphernalia, as well as driving with a permanently revoked license and not properly registering his vehicle.
According to the arrest report, Shelton pulled onto U.S. 17 and immediately made a u-turn. The deputy checked the license tag and learned it was assigned to another truck. Once Shelton was pulled over, deputies learned he had six other prior convictions for driving with a suspended license.
Deputies then found a plastic bag containing 14.65 grams of methamphetamine, as well as two straws and a Lortab.
Shelton will remain in the Clay County Jail without bond until his next court appearance on July 6.
