Man accused of having sex with 14-year-old at hotel

A man Jacksonville man was arrested and charged with lewd or lascivious molestation after meeting a 14-year-old girl at the Orange Park Mall and taking her to a nearby hotel room for sex, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Francisco Nicolas, 32, was arrested on June 15.
According to the arrest report, Nicolas and the girl met on Snapchat on Dec. 29. They agreed to meet at the mall a day later. Nicolas took the girl to a hotel and had sex with her. When he was returning her to the mall, the girl said she wanted a relationship with the defendant, CCSO said. Nicolas became angry and told the girl to get out of his car at the mall’s perimeter.
The arrest affidavit also stated they recovered Nicolas’ DNA from the victim.
Bond was set at $250,003.

Local man charged with shooting cats with BB gun

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – A 21-year-old man was arrested after the Clay County Sheriff’s Office’s General Investigations Unit said he shot several cats with a CO2-powered BB gun during an hours-long rampage on May 16.
Ryan Fiore, of Green Cove Springs, was arrested on June 15 and charged with aggravated cruelty to animals. CCSO said Fiore may have been intoxicated during the spree.
One cat was so severely injured it had one leg amputated. The cats now are with their owner while they recover.

Couple caught spending counterfeit $100 bills at mall

ORANGE PARK – A couple from Charlotte, North Carolina were arrested after three local businesses said they purchased items with counterfeit $100 bills.
Marcus Darr Slawon, 24, and Shaniyah Mone’t Brooks, 23, were charged June 15 with three counts of passing counterfeit currency, while Slawon also was charged with possession of counterfeit money and marijuana.
The couple bought items at three stores. A clerk at a clothes store at the Orange Park Mall became suspicious of one of the bills and refused to accept it.
Slawon said he found the money at a gas station in North Carolina. In all, deputies recovered 26 counterfeit bills.
A check also revealed Slawon had an active warrant for violating his probation for robbery with a dangerous weapon.

CCSO: Sailor arrested for having sex with 15-year-old

OAKLEAF – A U.S. Navy sailor was arrested and charged with having sex with a minor, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said.
Bradley Kyle Jonas, 19, of Middleburg, was charged June 11 with sexual battery on a child between 12- and 18-years old. His bond was set at 100,003.
The sheriff’s office notified Jonas of the charges on June 4 with instructions to turn himself in by June 6, CCSO said. When he failed to surrender, he was arrested at the Millstone Village condominiums.

Traffic stop triggers high-speed chase, discovery of drug

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – A simple traffic stop for not having a license tag light turned into a high-speed chase and multiple drug charges for a local man.
Clarence Bernard Chandler, 25, of Orange Park, was charged on June 15 with possession of cocaine with intent to sell, manufacture or deliver, as well as possession of cocaine, fentanyl, marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He also was charged with attempting to flee a police officer.
According to the arrest report, a deputy stopped Chandler for not having a tag light. As he approached the car, Chandler took off, driving “recklessly” on Pine Avenue as pedestrians walked a few feet away on the sidewalk.
The deputy stopped his pursuit “due to the threat the defendant’s driving actions posed to the community.”
Moments later, Chandler crashed at the corners at Franklin Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
A search led to the discovery of 1.6 grams of cocaine, .3 grams of fentanyl, 30 pieces of crack cocaine, 5.4 grams of marijuana, two scales and $668 in cash.

Wrong tag leads to bust for cocaine, crack, marijuana

ORANGE PARK – A quick-thinking Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputy stopped a car with swapped tag and wound up discovering crack cocaine, cocaine and marijuana that was intended to be distributed and sold.
Armani Kahalil Channelle, 26, of Orange Park was charged with possession with intent to sell, manufacture or deliver all three drugs on June 10. His bond was set at $100,006.
A deputy said he checked Channelle’s tag while they were sitting at a red light on Blanding Boulevard. The tag belonged to a Pontiac sedan. Channelle was driving an Audi.
The deputy smelled marijuana as he approached the car during the traffic stop. A search revealed 66.3 ounces of marijuana, 8.5 grams of cocaine and 4.3 grams of crack cocaine.

Man caught after trying to steal $900 bicycle

FLEMING ISLAND – A Jacksonville man was arrested on the East-West Parkway after the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said he tried to steal a restaurant owner’s bicycle.
Jeremy Lee Ellington, 38, was charged on June 11 with grand theft after the owner of Pepper’s Restaurant chased and caught Ellington after he took the bike from the front of his restaurant. The owner retrieved the bike after a brief fight.
Surveillance at the restaurant showed Ellington walk onto the porch, look through the front window and take the bike.
