CCSO: Man busted for selling drugs to undercover deputy

MIDDLEBURG – A Jacksonville man was arrested on May 11 for selling $700 worth of drugs to an undercover deputy with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
Reese L. Gibbs, 32, was charged with trafficking and selling amphetamine, selling Xanax and marijuana, after the deputy used Facebook messenger and the Sessions app to set up a drug purchase in a parking lot on Blanding Boulevard.
The deputy agreed to buy 91 Adderall pills, 39 Xanax pills and 66.3 grams of marijuana for $700, according to the arrest report. After the sale, other deputies pulled Gibbs over for a traffic stop at Blanding Boulevard and State Road 23 where he was arrested.
His bond was set at $185,012,

Man arrested for violating injunction to avoid boy

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – A 40-year-old Green Cove Springs man was arrested on May 11 after a Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputy spotted him running at the Rolling Hills at Lake Asbury amenities center, a violation of an injunction for protection ordered after he was convicted of attacking a boy while he was walking his dog.
William Santell Simpson was charged with violation of an injunction for protection and resisting arrest after the deputy said Simpson was jogging within 100 feet of the victim’s car.
According to the arrest report, Simpson lived 1.1 miles from the amenities center and he was driven there by his mother.
Simpson wrestled with the deputy while he was being detained. The deputy had to deliver two knee strikes and a punch to gain control.
Simpson was charged with child abuse on May 3, 2019, after the victim and his sister said he struck the boy while he walked on the sidewalk. The sister recorded the attack on her cellphone.
Simpson received the injunction on Jan. 12 which prohibited him from being within 150 feet of the victim’s home, school or car. The original provision signed in 2019 barred him from having any contact with the boy.
Simpson’s bond was set at $20,004.

Speeding ticket turns into host of drug, firearm charges

MIDDLEBURG – A man driving 71 mph along Blanding Boulevard in a 45 mph zone was arrested for a variety of firearm and drug charges that were discovered during the traffic stop.
Matthew Lee Jackson, 22, of Orange Park, was charged with possession of cocaine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and THC oil and pens and carrying a concealed handgun on May 15 after Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies smelled burning marijuana and saw a scale during the stop.
According to the arrest report, Jackson said the drugs and gun weren’t his. He also said others often use his car.
Jackson, whose bond was set at $17,513, also was issued a speeding ticket.
