Middleburg man arrested after search uncovers several child pornography photos, videos

MIDDLEBURG – A search at a man’s home in Middleburg uncovered at least 10 photos and videos of children having sex, including one of a 5-year-old.
Steven Windle Burnsed, 33, was arrested and jailed on May 3 after being charged with 10 counts of possessing, controlling or viewing a depiction of a child involved with sexual conduct.
His bond was set at $1.5 million.
Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies conducted a search warrant at Burnsed’s home at 4560 Crazy Horse Ave., where detectives uncovered electronic devices with several email, internet and blogging/social media accounts that contained sexually explicit photos of children. According to the arrest report, some of the files contained sadomasochistic and bestiality abuse.
Burnsed’s next scheduled court appearance is June 5.

Mom charged with spending most of her disabled son’s workman’s comp payout on herself

MIDDLEBURG – A 70-year-old woman was arrested last week and charged with spending $757,432 of her disabled son’s money.
Barbara Lightsey Selph was charged with exploitation of a disabled person May 2 after investigators said he syphoned away most of her son’s workman’s compensation award following a 2010 accident that left him unable to care for himself.
The son, Verlon E. Selph Jr., received $879,467 in a settlement following his accident. His mother was appointed has his plenary guardian. Investigators with the Clay County Sheriff’s Department said the mother diverted most of her son’s money with “unauthorized appropriation, sale or transfer of property” from Dec. 2015 to Feb. 2018.
Barbara Selph originally was appointed his guardian on Aug. 28, 2015.
Her son died on May 28, 2018.
The investigation also revealed Verlon Selph Jr. was married at the time of his death, which would have made his wife, Retha Selph, the sole beneficiary of his estate.
Barbara Selph’s bond was set at $100,003. Her next court appearance is June 12.

CCSO: Man caught in Jacksonville after setting fire to Orange Park fence yard

ORANGE PARK – Quick investigative work by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Fire Marshall’s office and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives led to the arrest of an Orange Park man who was charged with setting a business on fire while another man slept a few feet away.
Noah Casey Coffin, 24, of Orange Park, was charged with arson to an occupied structure after deputies said he set a fire at R Camp Fencing, 185 Blanding Blvd, early Thursday.
The yard, where wood fencing panels are built and stored was destroyed, along with a small office building where William Hollabaugh was sleeping.
According to the sheriff’s office, several people, including Hollabaugh, reported the fire at 6:13 a.m. After the fire was extinguished, State Fire Marshall’s Office investigators quickly determined the fire was deliberately set with “an ignitable liquid” at the front of the building where Hollabaugh was sleeping.
He escaped without injury.
Deputies found Hollabaugh’s backpack near Memory Gardens cemetery – the same route witnesses saw Coffin running.
Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office found Coffin on Longchamp Drive, about 2.5 miles away, at about 7 p.m.
R Camp Fencing owner, Randall Champ, said Coffin may have argued with an employee at his business on Wednesday and was ordered to leave. Witnesses said he returned early Thursday. By 6:15 a.m., the business was quickly engulfed after at least one propane tank exploded.
Clay County Fire and Rescue said yard was “a 100-percent loss.”
Kam Y. Ebrahimi, who owns Kamy’s Kars next door to the fence yard, said local businesses have had a problem with transients hanging around in the alley that makes up the fence yard.
Additional charges were filed against Coffin while he was in jail for violating his parole. He was sentenced to parole last February in St. Johns County for stealing a car and driving without a license.

Orange Park man couldn’t out-run deputies following Walmart theft

ORANGE PARK – A man was finally caught last Wednesday after he led a Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputy on a car and foot chase in Lakeside.
Artravian De’Von Peake, 31, of Orange Park, tried to escape police after he was caught stealing $886.57 worth of items from the Walmart at 899 Blanding Blvd., according to the arrest report.
Peake made several abrupt lane changes on Blanding with a patrol car following with its lights and siren activated. He drove on the wrong side of the road after turning onto Londonderry Drive before turning onto Moody Avenue, and then onto Timber Lane. Shortly after the deputy gave up the chase in the residential area, Peake’s car broke down after he struck a curb.
Peake reportedly broke through a wooden fence while trying to flee, but he eventually was caught. It took two officers to detain him following a brief scuffle.
Peake was in the Clay County Jail Thursday with a bond totaling $38,264. He was charged with retail theft, criminal mischief, resisting, obstructing or opposing a police officer, attempting to flee or elude the police with flashing lights and siren active, using an antishoplifting device, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage and a second offense for driving without a license.

Woman jailed after grabbing man by cheek while refusing to leave after a date

ORANGE PARK – A date ended with a trip to the Clay County Jail for a Jacksonville woman charged with grabbing a man by his cheek.
Ashley M. Owen, 34, was booked on battery – dating violence.
According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Owen was visiting a man on Gano Avenue. After she took a shower, she was asked to leave. She instead wanted to sleep in the victim’s spare bedroom. She grabbed him by the mouth when he declined, the arrest report stated.
The victim suffered a small cut on the inside of his right cheek.

Sheriff’s school zone task force leads to  tickets, warnings and handful of arrests

CLAY COUNTY – Some drivers got a difficult lesson in school safety zones recently as part of the Florida Sheriffs Association’s Task Force Operation School Zone Safety program.
In Clay County, there were about 60 tickets written for speeding and not yielding in school zones, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Motorists also were given nearly 40 official and verbal warnings and a handful were arrested.
“The task force operation may be over, but the responsibility that we all have to be safe on our roadways never ends,” CCSO said in a statement. “Let’s all do better!”
