Drug raid leads to arrest of four in Green Cove Springs

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – Four people were arrested following a raid on their mobile home at 2758 Lazy Gator Drive on March 20.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office’s Targeted Narcotics, Organized Crime Section and SWAT teams converged on the home to serve a warrant at 8 a.m. Moments later, Jonathan Eliott Cartwright, 36, was charged with selling Subutex, possession of methamphetamine, hydrocodone and drug paraphernalia and maintaining a residence for illegal drug sales, Rodney Grambo, 58, was charged with possession of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and a controlled substance, as well as maintaining a residence for illegal drug sales, Victoria Gracelyn Greenway, 21, was charged with possession methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia and Tricia Payton, 25, was charged on an out of county warrant for possession of cocaine.
All four are from Green Cove Springs.


Man arrested after deputies find woman severely beaten


MIDDLEBURG – A man was arrested after the Clay County Sheriff’s Office found his girlfriend with a “bloody mouth, bloody nose, swollen lips, abrasions on her neck and various other scrapes and bruises” on March 22.
Zackery Michael O’Loughlin, 25, of Jacksonville was charged with felony domestic battery by strangulation and possession of a firearm or ammo by a convicted felon and marijuana was deputies responded to a disturbance call in the 1800 block of Sheraton Lakes Circle.
According to the arrest report, the victim was asleep in her son’s bed at the back of the house when she reportedly was attacked. She refused to file charges, but deputies arrested the man after seeing her injuries.
He remained in the Clay County Jail with a $76,008 bond.

Two in jail after firing shots from SUV near Moody Park

ORANGE PARK – Two men remained in the Clay County Jail with a $300,006 bond after deputies said they fired at least five shots from their speeding SUV near Moody Park on March 19.
Lazarus Charles Lee, 19, of Green Cove Springs, and D’Marcus Kahlid Allen, 19, of Jacksonville, were charged with possessing an unlicensed firearm and shooting from a vehicle within 1,000 of bystanders.
According to CCSO, a deputy on patrol along Moody Avenue heard the gunshots. Two SUVs sped away from the scene. The deputy saw muzzle flashes of at least five shots coming from the second SUV.
Another deputy eventually stopped Allen and Lee at the intersection of Old Jennings and Rainbow roads. A K-9 detected the presence of drugs, so the two were detained and their SUV was searched. Deputies then found two guns and spent casings on the floorboard. Five spent 9mm casing also were found in the roadway at the park.

Man jailed for breaking into car with a child

ORANGE PARK – A Jacksonville man was in the Clay County Jail on March 19 with a $75,006 bond after he broke into a woman’s car at The Home Depot on Wells Road.
Jon Wesley Bartley, 38, was charged with grand theft and contributing to the delinquency of a minor since he had a child with him during the break in, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Orange Park pedestrian killed on Blanding Boulevard


ORANGE PARK – A 53-year-old Orange Park man was hit and killed as he crossed Blanding Blvd. on March 18.
The Florida Highway Patrol said Michael Black died at Orange Park Medical Center after he was hit by an SUV driven by Larry Hal Rener, 56, of Middleburg at Jefferson Avenue.
Black wasn’t using the crosswalk when he was struck, FHP reported.

Local man critically injured in rollover crash in Union County

RAIFORD – A Middleburg man is at UF Health in Gainesville after being critically injured in a single-car accident last Saturday night.
John Bassett, 30, was hurt when his Ford F-250 veered off County Road 229 near C.R. 793 and rolled several times, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
