Men evicted, then arrested in Middleburg drug sting

MIDDLEBURG – A man was caught selling methamphetamine from the same house he was evicted from a day earlier.
Walter Midyette, 66, of Middleburg was charged with three counts of selling and delivering methamphetamine from his house at 4681 Peppergrass St. on Feb. 21. A Clay County judge signed a final order to have Midyette evicted from the house on Feb. 20.
He didn’t have time to pack.
Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies already had Midyette under surveillance after the agency said the man bought methamphetamine three times from confidential sources. He sold 3.12 grams of meth to an informant on Jan. 8, 1.2 grams on Feb. 12 and 1.2 grams on Feb. 18, according to the arrest report.
Another man, Jeffrey Michael Smith, 37, of Orange Park, was arrested at the house after deputies found drugs, straw and a pipe in a spare bedroom. He was charged with possessing cocaine and drug paraphernalia.
Midyette’s bond was set at $120,009.

Woman returns to Clay to face 2019 burglary charges


OAKLEAF – The Clay County Sheriff’s Office tracked down a woman to the Duval County Jail who was wanted for stealing cooper wiring last year from several homes under construction at Lennar at Grayhawk.
Lorrie Michelle Seaman, 37, of Jacksonville, was charged with five counts of burglary and five counts of grand theft, with three resulting in losses between $300 and $4,999.
A construction superintendent noticed wiring had been removed from several houses under construction last April. He found the wiring in an empty house with a man upstairs who previously worked at the site installing windows.
According to the arrest warrant, Florida Highway Patrolman who lived in the community saw the man leave the area in a car reportedly driven by Seaman.
The couple also were wanted for burglarizing homes under construction in Duval County.
Seaman was transported from Jacksonville to the Clay County Jail. Her bond was set at $125,015.

Middleburg man killed in Blanding Boulevard crash


MIDDLEBURG – A 47-year-old man was killed last Saturday morning when his car was struck by a pickup truck as he crossed Blanding Boulevard.
James Thomas Brown of Middleburg was pronounced dead shortly after arriving to Orange Park Medical Center.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Brown was driving east on Peppergrass Street when he attempted t cross Blanding Boulevard. A truck driven by Jerry Dean Wahl, 32, of Middleburg was southbound on Blanding when the vehicles crashed.
Both cars had children on board, including an 8-year-old riding with Brown and a 2-year-old with Wahl. Neither were injured.

Man killed crossing U.S. 17 in Green Cove Springs


GREEN COVE SPRINGS – A pedestrian was struck and killed when he ran into traffic Monday night on U.S. Highway 17.
Oscar Jucum, 30, of Green Cove Springs, ran into the northbound lane near the Garber Automall and was struck by Dodge Charger driven by Kingsley Gayle, 41, of Green Cove Springs.
Jucum was thrown onto the hood of the car at impact, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
