Two women die in mobile home fire at Doctors Inlet

ORANGE PARK – A mother and her adult daughter were found dead inside a mobile home that was destroyed by fire on Oct. 13.
Clay County Fire Rescue responded to a call at 2709 Kristi Court shortly after 2:30 a.m. The single-wide home in Doctors Inlet was fully engulfed in flames. They fought intense heat and smoke before putting the fire out. They found the women during a preliminary investigation. The State Fire Marshal now is in charge of investigating the cause of the fire. Firefighters also were called to mobile home fire on Mandrake Street a few minutes later. Nobody was injured.

Man gets 14 years for DUI accident that killed a 6-month-old girl

CLAY COUNTY – Despite his tearful pleas for leniency and forgiveness, a Jacksonville man was sentenced to 14 years in prison for driving drunk and killing a six-month-old girl after he slammed into the back of a car sitting at a red light.
Randy Eric Teal Jr., who was 31 at the time of the crash, spent the afternoon drinking at the Jacksonville-Washington game at TIAA Bank Field on Dec. 16, 2018. He was driving 57 mph on Blanding Boulevard when he rear-ended a Kia at College Drive that was being driven by Nannette Jean Green along with two passengers, including Sophie Leon Friesenhahn. That triggered a chain reaction that involved three other cars, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Teal pleaded guilty to DUI manslaughter, three counts of DUI with serious injury and four counts of DUI with property damage on Aug. 9.
Teal was facing as many as 28 years in jail. Teal’s family asked Judge Michael Sharrit for the minimum sentence, but he met both sides in the middle with 14 years. Sharrit said it appeared Teal was remorseful for driving with a blood-alcohol level between .12 and .18 – more than three times over the legal limit of .08.
“I am truly, from the bottom of my heart, apologize,” Teal told Sophie’s family. “I am sorry. I am sorry. I am sorry. I am sorry. I am sorry. I am sorry. As many times as I can say sorry and I apologize, nothing can take away the pain that you have been going through.”

Man busted for showing his rear in local pharmacy
ORANGE PARK – A man was arrested for dropping his pants and told people to “kiss my [rear]” in a pharmacy after a customer refused to give him $2.
Edward Samuel Sands, 45, was charged on Oct. 16 with indecent exposure after the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said he entered Atkinson’s Pharmacy and asked an employee to check his blood pressure. After he was told they don’t offer that service, he “told” a customer to give him $2. When he refused, he exposed his bare buttocks to the man and his 5-year-old son.
As of Oct. 20, Sands remained in the Clay County Jail with a $752 bond.
