MIDDLEBURG - Middleburg High football, led by quarterback Luke Padgett, showed off a bit of coast-to-coast offense under new head coach Ryan Wolfe at a team scrimmage held Saturday at Middleburg High School. “I thought we had guys flying around; 11 hats to the ball on offense,” said Wolfe. “We got some guys coming in from other sports; track and baseball, that have to get up to speed. It makes coaching easy with great bunch of kids willing to work hard; yes sir, no sir, execute.”
Among the highlights were some breakaway scoring runs from the backfield duo of Robert Steele and Logan Padgett with wideout Caleb Freytag taking a quick out 65 yards to paydirt.
“The new coaching staff are all perfectionists and the practices are done at a college level,” said Luke Padgett. “The new coaches have proven they know how to win games from the schools they came from.”
The Broncos offensive line; long a strong up front presence, had Tanner Peery leading from his right guard position.
“I think we had a great day; lots to get back to practice on Monday and make better,” said Peery. “It’s definitely a much different offense; very fast, and we hope to catch defenses off guard at the snap.”
Middleburg, 0-10 in 2020, will play their spring game against Keystone Heights, 6-3 last year, on May 21.
