This is from my memory;
Magnolias over black water,
White blooms, tender and new,
Floating slowly with tide currents
Where forests melted into water.
We were young and I ungrateful,
Though I saw the beauty in this
and I saw such beauty in you.
We jumped into cool, cleansing water
Just beyond the railroad bridge.
Our part of the river…
Hanging limbs, lilies, and all
Your sun smile and auburn hair
As we lay in the sand laughing,
With summer’s green and cicada’s song.
