ORANGE PARK – Gary Newman of Orange Park was elected First Vice President of the Vietnam Veterans of America Florida State Council last week in Lake Mary.
Newman, who served as Florida State Council Second Vice President for the last two years, ran unopposed for the First Vice President position of the council that represents more than 5,000 Vietnam Veterans in Florida.
Florida has the third largest state council that is part of the Vietnam Veterans of America organization based in Silver Spring, Maryland.
Newman, a Navy Veteran, is founder and past president of Col. William G. Byrns Chapter 1059 in Clay County.
Newman’s wife, Mary Anne, has been re-elected as President of Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America in Florida. Kim Biddle of Middleburg was elected Vice President. The AVVA has a membership of more than 500 in Florida.
