ORANGE PARK—An Orange Park Lions Club member's idea recently provided coats and hoodies to Orange Park High students.
Club member Vicky Crosby, a former teacher, had an idea to start a coat drive. She remembered students without coats or hoodies to keep warm during winter. Mike Poweleit, Secretary of the Orange Park Lions Club, ran with the idea and approached the military recruiting offices in Orange Park. SFC Ashley Quinn from the Orange Park Army recruiting office offered to help with the coat drive. She set up the coat drive among all the Army recruiting offices in Jacksonville, and they collected coats throughout October.
SFC Quinn contacted Poweleit once the coats were available for handoff to the Orange Park Community School. They were delighted to receive the coats and hoodies. The Lions Club presented Erika with even more coats that they collected as part of the coat drive after she spoke to the Lions Club about the great things they do to help students and families in need.
