ORANGE PARK – HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital has earned national recognition from Healthgrades for its superior performance in Labor and Delivery and Obstetrics and Gynecology care. This ranks the HCA Florida Healthcare hospital in the top 5% of the country for their exceptional care of mothers during and after labor and delivery, according to Healthgrades.

For eight consecutive years, Orange Park Hospital has been ranked in the top 5% of hospitals for Labor and Delivery care and a Five-Star Recipient for vaginal and c-section deliveries. This is the hospital’s third year in a row being named in the top 5% for Obstetrics and Gynecology care.

“It is such an honor to lead a team that is incredibly compassionate and dedicated to their patients. In my 37-year career, I’ve never been part of a team that has achieved as much as they have. I know it’s a direct result of the amount of love they have for their jobs and their patients,” said Suzanne Jones, Director of Women’s and Children’s Services.

The women’s care team at Orange Park Hospital includes a wide range of specialty caregivers including nurses, patient care technicians, surgical technicians, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, the surgery and anesthesia team specializing in women’s care, as well as a team of physicians including OB-GYNs, neonatologists, anesthesiologists, and pediatricians.

The Healthgrades ratings and awards help patients understand a hospital's clinical performance in childbirth, hysterectomies and other gynecologic surgeries, and provide the information needed to make an informed decision on where they seek treatment.

“Knowing that HCA Florida Healthcare is the only hospital system in the Jacksonville area to earn this recognition and provide this level of care makes me so proud,” Jones said.

The hospital has earned the following accolades:

• 5-Star Rating: Vaginal Delivery – 8 years in a row

• 5-Star Rating: C-Section Delivery – 8 years in a row

• Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence Award: Top 5% - 3 years in a row

• Labor and Delivery Excellence Award: Top 5% - 8 years in a row

“I know whenever my patients are at HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital they are in good hands,” said Dr. Eric Edelenbos, Ob-gyn at HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital. “I’ve been delivering patients here for over 17 years and can attest to the staff being top-notch. These awards are an enormous achievement for the entire team and such a benefit to families in our community.”

Healthgrades analyzed labor and delivery and Ob-Gyn patient outcomes data for all patients from nearly 4,500 hospitals. If all hospitals included in this analysis, as a group, performed similarly to hospitals receiving the Excellence Awards, on average, 289,0006 patients could have avoided complications.

“It’s a privilege to have families entrust me with the delivery of their babies,” says Dr. Michael Morphet, Ob-gyn at HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital. “It’s quite an honor to do that as part of a team that delivers high-quality care and a great experience. This recognition validates the expertise in maternity care available at Orange Park Hospital and I am very proud of everyone.”

Hospitals that receive excellence awards effectively safeguard their patients from injuries, infections, medical errors, and other complications during their hospital stay. Patients treated in hospitals with these awards have, on average, a 35% lower risk of experiencing complications at an Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence hospital and a 41.2% reduced risk for those at a Labor and Delivery Excellence hospital.

“Through our 2022 Obstetrics and Gynecology Awards, we seek to recognize facilities who excel in delivering superior care for Ob-Gyn patients,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer and head of Data Science, Healthgrades. “We are proud to name HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital as an Excellence Award recipient and look forward to their continued efforts to make maternal care a priority.”

Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville also was recognized in the top 10% in the country for Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence, top 5% for labor and delivery excellence, and five-star recipients for hysterectomy, vaginal delivery and c-section delivery. The HCA Florida Healthcare facilities are the only hospitals in the Jacksonville area to receive these ob-gyn designations. The two facilities were the only hospitals in the Jacksonville area to receive the recognition.
