PANAMA CITY - Keystone Heights High all-sport athlete Caleb Moncrief will be ending his illustrious sports career for the Indians with a shot at a track medal after winning a region title in discus Thursday at the region 1-2A championships in Panama City.
Moncrief, already a weightlift state champ team member, a football region playoff tight end and defensive end, can bring home one more medal to the Indians Walls of Fame with his trip to Gainesville for the Class 2A championships at the University of Florida.
Moncrief ripped a 149’8” toss on his third attempt after a foul on throw two and just a 145’4.5” first toss that would have been enough to still win ahead of Bishop Kenny’s Max Seiden, runnerup at 138’-8”. In the shot put, won at 52’-1”, Moncrief was fifth at 47’-4.5”, about two feet from fourth place, but close enough to maybe get an at-large invite into the top 16 to state rule. Miler Tyler Griffin was ninth in the 1600 with a 4:48.05 and 14th in the 800 at 2:15.31.
For the Keystone Heights girls, hurdler/jumper Kierstyn Shawn ends a stellar soccer and track season with seventh in the long jump and 13th in 100 hurdles with teammate and soccer ace Ella Hutchins 12th in the 400.
Kendall Gagnon finished seventh in javelin.
