BRASELTON, GA – Former Fleming Island High School golf state qualifier Sarah May, now at Stetson University in Deland, FL, maintained a four over par average for her season which was highlighted by a fourth place finish at the ASUN womens golf championships held April 21-23 at the Legends of Chateau Elan in Braselton, Ga.

May, along with former Fleming Island High teammate Lauren Waidner, now at the University of Florida, and Keystone Heights High School junior Camille Jackson, a three-time FHSAA golf championship competitor, will be among some of the area’s best golfers in the Jacksonville Area Golf Association’s First Coast Women’s Amateur championship tournament June 22-23 at Eagle Harbor Golf Club in Fleming Island. Waidner is the defending tournament champion from last year played at Timuquana Country Club with a one over par 73. May finished 16th at three over par 75.

May, a sophomore at Stetson, finished her sophomore season with a 76.07 average on par 72 courses for seven tournaments she competed in in 2019.

Tops on the list was a 211, 5-under finish in the three rounds of the LadyCat Invitational put on by Bethune Cookman Universithy in Daytona Beach where Stetson finished third of 15 teams.

In the Lady Cat, May posted a career-best 67 score in the final round of the tournament to give her a third place individual finish; with the top two both tying at 210. May was later named to the All-Tourmament team.

At the ASUN championship, May finished tied for 17th with a three day total of 244 (25-over) with rounds of 83, 75, 86.

Waidner, also a sophomore, had a low round of 72, which was her collegiate best. Waidner earned an SEC Communityh Service award while three Gator teammates earned All-SEC second team honors and an SEC All-Freshman second team.

The Lady Gators won the SEC team championship in April, got second in the NCAA regional and finished 11th in the NCAA championships. Waidner had a 76.60 season average with one top 25 finish (24th).
