FLEMING ISLAND – A man with two previous DUI convictions was charged with two more counts of driving under the influence on Nov. 16 after the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said he rear-ended a van on County Road 220 near Lakeshore Drive without applying his brakes.

Brian George Lamarre, 47, of Fleming Island, was charged twice with DUI with property damage and/or injury after his Toyota 4 Runner collided with the van, causing $10,000 worth of “significant rear end damage” to the van and prompting both airbags in his vehicle to deploy.

According to the arrest report, witnesses said Lamarre appeared to be “wobbly” and “under the influence” at the scene. They said he almost “hit a few other vehicles before crashing into the van.”

CCSO said Lamarre seemed impaired when they talked with him, and he refused to submit to all sobriety tests, including blood draws. He said he was concussed in the crash, and he was transported to HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital, where he again refused to submit to any blood drawings or any other sobriety evaluations.

Deputies said that based on his appearance, the strong smell of alcohol on his breath and statements from witnesses, Lamarre, who was convicted of DUI in 2014 and 2019, was arrested.

His bond was $20,004.
